Among Nature

"The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth"
                                                                                                   Maria Montessori

This is always a favorite time of year for our class, as we turn our nature hunting skills on.  We play I Spy games and talk about the things we see that interest us while we walk.  We observe nature and incarnate the environment wholly  by touching, smelling, and sometimes tasting if the occasion arises.  Here we are looking at the fungus on the tree stump.  This led to a talk about mushrooms of course, what they are, who liked them, who didn't, and last but not least, who had eaten some from out of the yard and why we shouldn't do that.

Vega asks, what is fungus?

 Megan spots a caterpillar!

Over the bridge and back to Evergreen we go.

Severin finds a cicada and Megan wants to check it out too!

Severin says, let's touch it  and see if it's alive.
